Elderly man dies of cold
An elderly man died of cold related afflictions at Kapilguni village of Khulna on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahim, 80.
Local sources said Rahim died around 7pm due to cold related illness.
2 bikers killed in road crash
Two motorcyclists were killed and another one was injured as a human hauler hit a motorcycle ridden by them in Denkipara of Rajshahi on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Rajib Rahman, son of Majibur Rahman and Belal Hossain, son of Abdul Hamid, residents of Palsha village of the upazila.
Victim's family members said that the accident took place around 8:30 pm when the human hauler hit the motorcycle, leaving Rajib dead on the spot and two others injured.
Later, the injured were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where Belal succumbed to his injuries around 11:30pm.
Two drivers held with yaba
Police arrested two drivers and their two helpers along with 2,200 pieces of yaba tablets from their buses in Sonadanga bus terminal of the Khulna on Monday night.
The arrestees were identified as the bus drivers Raihan and Riad and their helpers Jiyad and Jahid.
On secret information, a team of police raided in the two buses of ‘Mridul Tours’ Paribahan’ in the terminal around 9pm which came from Cox's Bazar carrying a group of students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology after their study tour, and recovered the yaba pills, said Mamtazul Islam, OC of Sonadanga Police station.
Rly official crushed under train
A railway official was killed under the wheels of a running train at Gourhanga railway crossing under Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi yesterday.
The deceased Altaf Hossain, 52, was an audit officer of Bangladesh Railway west zone and a resident of Ghoramara area in the city. Sayeed Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Railway Police Station, said Altaf Hossain met the accident while he was crossing the railway track around 11 am.
Being informed, fire fighters rushed to the place of occurrence and took the body to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
A case was recorded with the police station.
Four shops fined Tk 14,000
Four consumer shops were fined Taka 14,000 here yesterday on charges of manufacturing and selling unhygienic and sub-standard food items.
A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a raid at Bagha Bazar and found Bagha Cosmetic Store, Madina Traders, Ma Bakery and Dolly Cosmetics guilty of preparing, possessing and selling food and other consumer items in unhygienic condition.
