Woman to die for killing husband in Pabna

A court in Rajshahi yesterday sentenced a woman and two others to death for killing a man in 2011 over an extramarital affair in Pabna sadar upazila. Judge of Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter handed down the verdict. The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each.

The convicts were identified as Kulsum Nahar alias Beauty, 46, daughter of Golam Mohammad of Gopalpur in Sadar upazila, Ruhul Amin, 47, son of Akkas Ali of Raninagar village of Ataikula upazila and Soleman Ali, 45, son of Yasin Molla of same village.

Only Beauty was present in the court during the verdict, however Ruhul and Solaiman are still fugitive after the incident. According the prosecution story, the victim Mosharrof Hossain Khokon’s wife Kulsum Nahar Beauty had been engaged with an extra marital relationship with Ruhul Amin. The accused in collaboration with each other strangled Mosharraf at his residence in Kalachandpara area of Pabna.

A case was filed with the police station concerned on the following day. On completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing the three.

After examining the recorded depositions of 15 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal handed down the verdict.

Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Mahmudur Rahman Rumon defended the accused.
