Bangladesh ace golfer Siddikur Rahman and his co-players get a bright opportunity to prove themselves at Dhaka Open at their home yard when the tri-sanctioned by Asian Development Tour (ADT), Professional Golf Tour India a (PGTI) and Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association (BPGA) and approved by Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) will be held at Kurmitola Golf Club course from January 24 to 27.
About 150 golfers drawn from home and abroad are taking art in the 72-hole tournament. ADT and PGTI will send 45 players each while the rest will be fielded by the hosts country Bangladesh.
Brig Gen Quamrul Islam, secretary general, BPGA, stated this at a press conference at Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) yesterday. Anisur Rahman, COO, Pran RFL were also present.
Quamrul Islam said definitely Siddik, who is now in Bangkok, is the top contender from Bangladesh. “Yes there are five or six players who are capable of giving good fight with the leading players of the tournament. I think there are also a few more promising players who can come to the notice of golf fans of the country wit their developing golf skills,” said Quamrul Islam.
“A number of leading Indian pro-golfers are expected to register their names for tri-snction tournament,’ said Quamrul Islam while replying to a question. Golfers from some other Asian countries are also expected to turn up for the show.
He said the organisers could disclose the exact status of foreign players on January 22 or 23. The foreign players are expected to arrive in Dhaka from January 22.
Rizwan Bin Farouq introduced the title sponsor City Bank who will provide Tk 50 lakh as prize money. The champions will receive 16 per cent of the total prize money.
“We are very happy to announce that City Bank American Express has come forward to support this tournament and as such acquired the title sponsor of Dhaka Open 2018. The Co-sponsor for this event is Microsoft Bangladesh Limited,” said Farouq.
Adil Islam said his house is proud of sponsoring the tournament. “We have a long tradition of supporting different sports and games. We hope to continue our efforts for the development of not only golf also other games.”
Biman Bangladesh Airlines not only earned the right of becoming official air carrier but it also award a special prize to champion. “We will give a return ticket of to any destiny where Biman operates as desired by the champions,” said Antique Rahman.
