
Spanish delegation meets DU VC
A four-member delegation, led by Head of Inditex Chair of Spanish Language and Culture, Spain Prof Maria Jose Martinez, paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman on Sunday at the latter’s office of the university. Other members of the delegation were Prof Amparo Porta Rivas, Prof Maria Caamano and Prof Ana D Tarrio, a DU press release said.
During the meeting they stressed the need for strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic, research and cultural exchange programmes being conducted by the University of Dhaka and various universities in Spain.
The DU VC sought cooperation from the delegation to develop Spanish Language Course at Dhaka University. The delegation members assured the VC of providing all possible support and cooperation in this regard.
IUB hosts 8th BELTA International Conference
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the 8thBangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) International Conference titled ‘Expanding Horizons in English Language Education’ on its own campus at Basundhara in the capital on Friday, says a press release.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat was the chief guest at the inaugural session while Prof M Omar Rahman, IUB Vice-chancellor, was the special guest. Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of IUB Dr Mahbub Alam, BELTA President Harunur Rashid Khan, Conference Chair Dr Arifa Rahman and Head, English Department, IUB Towhid Bin Muzaffar addressed the function, among others. Internationally reputed language educator Dr Christine Coombe presented a keynote paper. There were 10 plenary and featured presentations made by a multi-dimensional group of international and national speakers.
The conference provided a forum and a networking opportunity for English language teaching professionals from around the country.
EU starts its journey on permanent campus
The Eastern University started its journey on its permanent campus at Savar on Wednesday, says a press release.
Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, additional secretary (Universities), Ministry of Education declared the opening of classes at the permanent campus of the university at a ceremony. Later he visited the classes and highly appreciated the initiatives taken by the authorities of Eastern University to inaugurate classes on the permanent campus in compliance with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission. He also hoped that Eastern University will play significant role in realising the ‘Vision 2021’ and ‘Vision 2041’ of the Government of Bangladesh, thorough imparting quality education to its students.
Students and faculty members from all the departments of the university, members of the Board of Trustees, officials, and other staff members were present on the occasion.
