SYLHET: Police have arrested a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) from a mess in Akhalia area close to university for allegedly raping a college girl, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Md Saiful Islam, son of late Akram Ali, hailing from Maijbai area of Sunamganj district and a third-year student of English Department of the university. Police arrested Saiful on Saturday night. Later, he was sent to jail after police produced him before a court, said Md Shahidullah, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

According to the victim, Saiful had a love affair with the college girl for last three years. He took the girl at the mess on January 11 promising to marry her.

He raped the girl for three consecutive days there, said the OC quoting the victim. Later, Saiful abandoned the girl in Sunamganj Sadar bus terminal and went into hiding, he added.  The girl filed an abduction and rape case with Sadar Police Station on Saturday night. The girl was sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for medical test, said the OC.
