A day-long seminar on “Nutrition Communication in Agriculture Extension” was held recently at the seminar room of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS) of Dhaka University (DU), says a press release.
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the seminar as chief guest. Director of the INFS of DU, Professor Dr. Nazma Shaheen presided over the function, while representative of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Lalita Bhattacharya and Associate Director of INGENAES, Andrea Bohn addressed it as special guests. Professor of INFS, Dr. Sagarmay Barua delivered the address of welcome. Chief Executive Officer of BIID, Md. Shahid Uddin Akbar gave vote of thanks. Representatives from INFS, USAID, BIID and FAO were present on the occasion. DU INFS organized the seminar in cooperation with USAID, INGENAES and BIID.
DU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the mass media to play an effective role to popularize nutritional ideas among the common people and make them aware about nutritional need. He emphasized on broadcasting talks and conversations on nutritional issues. Nutrition education should get priority in primary school curricula.
Vice-Chancellor also said, nutrition consultancy and advices should be initiated in every sphere of the society to reach the desired goal. He thanked the organizers for holding such a timely seminar. He hoped that the seminar would help to identify the tools, techniques and strategies for better formulation of national nutritional policy and its implementation. Later, he inaugurated the day-long nutrition exhibition at the INFS premises.
