Cold-related diseases break out in districts

The number of patients affected with cold-related diseases is increasing in the hospitals of Noakhali, Feni and Laxmipur hospitals as severe cold wave is sweeping over the districts. According to sources in Noakhali General Hospital, during the last few days a total of 300 children were admitted to the hospital. Most of them were affected with diarrhea, asthma, cough and fever. The same scene was seen at the hospitals in Laxmipur and Feni. Authorities of these hospitals are facing difficulty in providing proper treatment due to increased number of patients.
Md Rabiul Hossain, guardian of a child complained that the condition of his patient is not being improved as the treatments were delayed. Moreover, most of the medicines are to purchase from pharmacies outside the hospitals. Dr Anower Hossain, resident medical officer of Laxmipur Sadar Hospital denied the complaint of scarcity of medicine. He said doctors and nurses of the hospitals are trying their best to provide proper treatment.
Man hacked dead in Pirojpur

A youth was hacked to death by criminals in Bundaria upazila of Pirojpur district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rasel Khan, 32, son of late Barek Khan of Uttar Beltala village in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi district.
Mohammad Shahabuddin, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria police station said quoting locals, a group of criminals kidnapped Rasel while he was returning home around 8pm from Natunbazar in the upazila. Later, they killed him and left his body at East Matibhaga village in Bhandaria upazila of the district.
Shawkat Anwar, officer-in-charge of Kathalia police station said there were eight cases against Rasel with the police station including a robbery case.
Police detained a youth named Liton Hawlader in connection with the murder.
Two drug peddlers arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 3,170 pieces of yaba tablets worth Tk 9 lakh from Sadar and Shibganj upazilas of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday.
The arrestees are Md Kamal Mondol, 40, of Uttar Uzirpur village in Shibganj upazila and Md Mostafizur Rahman Dollar, 46, of Ghorapakhia Jhillipara in Sadar upazila.
On secret information, a team of RAB-5 led by Squadron Leader Mohammad Syed Abdullah Al-Murad, commander of Chapainawabganj camp, raided Boglauri Ghat area in Shibganj upazila around 4.30pm and arrested Kamal Mondol with 1,405 pieces of yaba tablets.
In another drive at Ghorapakhia Jhillipara in Sadar upazila the RAB team arrested Mostafizur Rahman with 1,765 pieces of yaba tablets.
Driver, helper killed as bus falls into ditch in Kushtia
Kushtia: At least 2 people were killed and 20 other injured when a bus slid off a driveway and backed into the roadside ditch in Kumarkhali upazila on Wednesday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Nayon Hosen, 32, the driver, son of Mizanur Rahman of Jagannathpur village in the same upazila, and Zafor, the helper.
Witnesses said, the accident took place around 2.30pm when a Douladia bound bus lost control over the steering soon after its try rod tore up near at Mas-Ud-Rumi bridge in Lahinipara area and overturned into the ditch, leaving the duo dead on the spot and 20 others injured.
The injured were taken to Kushtia General Hospital and the dead to its morgue for autopsy, said officer in charge of Kumarkhali Police Station Abdul Khalek, adding that a firefighting unit is working to fix the bus.
