A section of Dhaka University students on Thursday staged a demonstration on the campus demanding cancellation of recently affiliated 7 colleges under the university. Student from different departments of the university demonstrated near Raju Sculpture in the morning alleging that the students of seven colleges are claiming themselves as students of Dhaka University and taking other advantages.
They claimed that the university has limited capacity to ensure all facilities to its regular students and it is become worsened after giving affiliation.
The agitating students also brought out a procession which paraded different roads of the campus before staging a sit-in in front of Vice-chancellor’s office. They also tried to lock the entrance of the office.
Later the university proctor Golam Rabbani assured them to take necessary steps to mitigate the crisis.
As per the rules, all activities of theses colleges, including, admission process, holding of examinations and developing academic syllabuses will be conducted by the DU.
The re-affiliation followed a directive of the education ministry after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier declared that all such old colleges would come under public university systems to enhance their quality of education.
The government has recently affiliated Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College with Dhaka University.
