Popular theatre troupe Loko Natyadal (Siddeshwari) from Bangladesh will stage their much-acclaimed play ‘Sonai Madhab’ at the ‘Second International Theatre Festival’ in Kolkata, India. The four-day festival will take place at Behala Sarat Sadan in Kolkata. ‘Sonai Madhab’ will be staged on January 14 at 6:30pm as the concluding play of the festival.

The festival will be inaugurated by Shrimati Usha Ganguly at 6pm today. Along with four plays from India, the plays from Bangladesh and Brazil will be staged at the festival.

Directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky, ‘Sonai Madhab’ is based on a story from Mymensingh Geetika, a collection of traditional ballads. Music of the production was done by Mostafa Anwar Swapan. ‘Sonai Madhab’ weaves a tale of romantic tragedy between Sonai and Madhab, the leading characters in the play. The play is a dramatic depiction that weaves woes, agonies and dilemmas of women in a traditional narrative way.

The audience enjoys the tragic love story presented in the play following the traditional ‘padabali jatra’.
