An old man was killed and another injured over land dispute in Pirojpur on Monday night.
The deceased was Delwar Sheikh, 56, of village Kadomtola in Pirojpur Sadar upazila. Injured Babul Sheikh, 50, younger brother of Delwar, has been admitted in Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Family sources said there was a strained relation going on between Delwar and his cousins over claim on a piece of land. On Monday night at about 10.30 pm, someone called Delwar and his brother Babul out of home over phone. At around 11.30pm, hearing the scream of Babul from a nearby orchard, neighbours rushed to the spot and saw Babul injured  and Delwar lying dead. Locals took them to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital immediately. Both Delwar and Babul had their heads brutally hacked by the rivals. Md Walid Hossain, superintendent of police in Pirojpur, said  Babul has given statement to cops mentioning name of two men involved in the killing.
Police also arrested Nasir, one of the suspected killers, of the area. The SP said police is trying to arrest the other suspect.   Delwar’s wife Shahinur Begum filed a case with Pirojpur Sadar police station in connection with the incident yesterday.
