4th convocation of IU held

Kushtia: President Abdul Hamid on Sunday laid emphasis on greater exercise of freethinking and cultural activities at universities to check militancy, intolerance and other negative acts. "The nation has been observing with deep concern that the negative activities like intolerance, extremism, militancy and arrogance at different higher educational institutions. I think such acts have emerged and spread for lack of exercise of freethinking and cultural activities," he said.

The President came up with the remarks while addressing the '4th Convocation Ceremony' of Islamic University, Kushtia. Hamid congratulated the new graduates, researchers, teachers and all the members of the university family on the occasion of the convocation. University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, Convocation Speaker Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, and Vice Chancellor of the Kustia Islami University Prof Dr Harun ur Rashid Askari also addressed the convocation chaired by the Chancellor of the University President Abdul Hamid.

Earlier the President unveiled the plaqueof newly-built mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman beside the main entrance gate of the university campus.

BAU Fisheries faculty to celebrate golden jubilee March 2

MYMENSINGH: The Fisheries faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh is going to celebrate its Golden Jubilee on March 2, 2018. Marking the celebration, the faculty authorities have taken a three-day elaborate programme including rally, seminar, symposium, poster presentation, fish fair, recall the memory and cultural show. Meanwhile, the online registration for the programme has been started and it will continue till January 31. Graduates from home and abroad could register through university webpage (http://www.bau.edu.bd) or by clicking the link (http://fof50years.bau.edu.bd/registration/) directly.

The Fisheries faculty starts its journey in 1967 and has produced a total 5466 graduates (graduate-2878, post-graduate-2517 and PhD-71) till December 2017 who are now serving throughout the country and even in abroad also.  

Admission carnival held at Southeast University

Southeast University (SEU) organised an admission carnival for Spring Semester 2018 at the main building, SEU at Banani in the capital from January 7 to 11 (9am to 5pm), says a press release.

Prof ANM Meshquat Uddin, vice-chancellor of SEU, inaugurated the programme. M Kamaluddin Chowdhury, Representative of BOT; SEU Trust, Maj Gen Kazi Fakhruddin Ahmed, SPP, psc (Retd), Registrar of SEU; Prof Meer Mobashsher Ali, Chairman, Department of Architecture, Dr Rakibul Hassan, Chairman, Department of Bangla Language & Literature, Dr Mehe Zebunnesa Rahman, Director of BBA Programme, Sr faculties & high officials of different department of SEU were present at the event.  Students will avail 50 per cent discount on admission fees during this carnival. Subjects experts faculty members will be available for counseling on subject choice, job prospects and other academic issues.

JU, Emporia State University sign MoU

SAVAR: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Sunday between Emporia State University of America and Jahangirnagar University (JU) with a view to enhancing bilateral education and research.

JU Treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Monjurul Huq on behalf of Jahangirnagar University and President of Emporia State University Allison Garrett singed the MoU at a function held at the counseling room of senate hall in the morning. Under this MoU, students of JU Business Studies Faculty will get opportunity of education and research at the American university.  JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam, Executive Director of International Education department of Emporia State University Mark Dally, Chairman of JU Management Studies department Assistant Professor Awal Al Kabir and teachers of the faculty were present at the function.
