2 killed in N’ganj wall collapse
NARAYANGANJ: Two people were killed as a wall of an old building collapsed on them while demolishing it at Bholail in Sadar upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, and Matiur Rahman Mati, 48, son of late Kafil Uddin of Kashipur. Officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station Kamal Uddin said Safique Ahmed, owner of local Mohiuddin Dying factory, bought a piece of land along with an old building at Bholail.
His men were demolishing the building in the afternoon when a wall collapsed on Nazrul, also Safique's brother, and Mati. Locals rescued them and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where they died later.
Youth’s body found in Gazipur
GAZIPUR: Police recovered the body of a youth from a drain near Dhaka-Maymensingh highway in Gazipur city on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
Local people spotted the body of the unidentified youth wearing jeans pant and black shirt at Malekerbari area and informed police. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Sadekur Rahman, sub- inspector of Joydebpur Police Station.
Miscreants might have killed him 1/2 days ago and dumped the body into the drain, Sadekur added.
200 makeshift structures evicted
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Thursday in a drive evicted some 200 illegal makeshift structures in the capital’s Mohammadpur and Shyamoli areas, reports UNB.
DNCC executive magistrate SM Ajior Rahman led the mobile court from 11am to 4pm.
"We've evicted some 200 illegal structures from footpaths and roads and penalised two business houses for selling rotten and stale foods," said Ajior Rahman.
Fakhruddin Birani was fined Tk 23,000 while Sharma House Tk 15000. Both are located at 9/Ka PC Culture Housing Society in Shyamoli, he told a news agency.
108 drug traders surrender
RANGPUR: To begin normal life anew, 108 drug traders and drug addicts surrendered to the law enforcement agencies at a rally held on Sonaroy High School ground in Haragachh pourashava in Rangpur district on Thursday.
The Ward No-8 unit of Community Policing of Haragachh pourashava organised the rally titled 'Surrender of Drug Traders and Prevention of Child Marriage and Militancy'.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk attended the occasion as the main discussant with Police Super Mizanur Rahman in the chair. Tipu Munshi called upon the drug traders to give up the illegal drug business and come back to normal life.
