SUST enforces ban on smoking
SYLHET: The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) authorities have enforced a ban on smoking on the campus, aiming to encourage the students to give up the habit of taking tobacco-made products.
SUST proctor associate professor Jahir Uddin Ahmed issued a notice in this regard on Thursday. The authorities also enforced a restriction on selling cigarettes or tobacco-made products on the campus area, said the notice.
If any canteen, cafeteria, small shop, food court or vendor is found selling tobacco-made products, strict actions will be taken against them as per the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Rule, 2015. Earlier, on March 18, 2015, the then acting proctor Emdadul Haque enforced a restriction on smoking on the campus area.
Drama festival begins at JU today
SAVAR: A five-day drama festival will begin on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Saturday. With the slogan 'Unmukta Kori Somoyer Ruddho Dar', Jahangirnagar Theater, a renowned cultural organisation of the university, is organizing the festival. General Secretary of the organisation Hafizur Rahman Rana said.
A total of 5 dramas- Jon Mack, Tiner Talwar, Nityo Puran, Massacre and Proyojoner Akkhan--- will be staged at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha in the every evening during this festival, he said. The drama festival will end on January 10.
RU winter vacation begins tomorrow
RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi University (RU) will go on an 11-day winter vacation from January 7 (Sunday) and will continue till 18.
University acting registrar Prof MA Bari confirmed the matter yesterday. All the regular classes and examinations will remain suspended during the period while all academic activities will resume on January 18 However, the administration office of the campus of will remain suspended from January 7-11 and will reopen from 12 January, he added. Convener of Hall Provost Council, Porf Md Jahangir Alam said the dormitories will remain opened for the students. The decision has been taken from the hall provost council meeting, he added.
JU Journalists’ Association polls Jan 11
SAVAR: The election of the executive committee of Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) for the 2018 session will be held on January 11.
The polls will begin at 10am and will continue till 1pm on January 11, while the results will be announced within 4pm on that day. The chief election commissioner and also the Director of Teacher and Student Center (TSC) Prof Bashir Ahmed announced the election schedule on Wednesday. The decision of election made at the annual general meeting of this organisation that was held on December 15 at its office room in TSC.
JUJA Adviser Prof Farid Ahmed was present at the general meeting as the chief guest while JUJA President Moudud Ahmed Sujan presided over the programme.
In the meeting, the JUJA members reviewed its activities of last year while after verifying around 50 application forms of 31 campus correspondents of different print and online media were approved as JUJA member for the upcoming session.
BUBT, BDRAL sign MoU
Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) and Bangladesh Rating Agency Limited (BDRAL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) recently, says a press release. The objectives of the MoU were taking note of the commitment of BUBT and Bangladesh Rating Agency Limited for accelerating academic cooperation, skill development and career opportunities through developing human resources in Bangladesh.
Prof Md Abu Saleh, Vice-chancellor, BUBT and Sayed Javed Ahmed, chief executive officer of BDRAL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
