Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan new NBR chairman

The government has appointed former senior secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan as the chairman of the National Board of Revenue.

The retired bureaucrat has been brought back on a two-year contract, according a public administration ministry order released

yesterday.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued an order to appoint the retired senior officer of the NBR chairman and the internal resource division in the two-year contract yesterday.

It has been said that Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was appointed as the Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources division (IRD) and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue for two years.

Chairman of the newly-released National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Senior Secretary of Internal Resources Division Najibur Rahman was appointed as the principal secretary of the Prime Minister on December 31. As a result, Mosharraf Hossain replaced him.

On June 30, 2016, Mosharraf Hossain was scheduled to preparation for retirement leave (PRL). However, one day before on June 29, the government canceled its PRL and appointed senior secretary of the Ministry of Industries for a one-year contract.

Officer of 1981 BCS batch Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was appointed as acting secretary of the Bridge Division on February 3,  2010. On July 29 of the same year, he was promoted to the post of secretary.

Mosharraf Hossain, who was promoted as the senior secretary on April 26, 2014, was appointed on 11th April 2016 in the appointment of industrial secretary. Earlier, he was in charge of the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and member of the Privatization Commission. However, he was made OSD after the arrest of the World Bank's funding in the Padma Bridge, in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case. However, the ACC said, there was no evidence of corruption.

Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, a graduate and postgraduate degree in Economics from Dhaka University.
