‘Neo-JMB’ leader held

The counter terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained a suspected neo-JMB (Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh) militant, Mamun, 21, in connection with last year’s August 15 hotel blast in Panthapath area of the capital. Law enforcers arrested Mamun from House Building area adjacent to Uttara Sector 7.

DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said Mamun made the bomb and supplied it for the attack on an August 15 mourning rally.

He carried the bomb to Saiful, who was killed during anti-militancy raid ‘August Bite’ on hotel Olio International at Panthapath. Mamun had been hiding at Uttara since the police raid on the hotel.

Counter-terrorism members along with the intelligence wing personnel of Police Headquarters and Bogra police conducted a joint raid to arrest Mamun on Sunday evening.

During initial interrogation, Mamun admitted he is one of the leaders of Neo JMB’s shura committee, police said. According to the law enforcers, he was in charge of funding for the militant organisation, making explosives, training, and planning abduction attacks.

Earlier, on November 19, police arrested one Tanvir Yasin Karim in connection with the case.
