The Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) on Sunday protested the re-appointment of a Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) leader, who was accused of assaulting a number of teachers during movement to remove former vice-chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain, as an officer at the university. JUTA has been protesting the reappointment of BCL university unit organising secretary Faisal Hossen Dipu terming it illegal and immoral since the authorities did not publish any circular against appointment to the post, said JUTA President Prof Khabir Uddin. JUTA leaders met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam on Monday morning and urged her to cancel reappointment of Dipu, he said further. JUTA has called an urgent executive meeting today (Tuesday) for their forward steps in this regard, he added.
The authorities appointed Faisal Hossen Dipu to a post of officer of the university administration amid opposition from teachers.
The authorities appointed Faisal Hossen Dipu to the post on an ad hoc basis canceling his earlier appointment to a post of officer of the Central Library, confirmed JU registrar Abu Bakkar Seddique yesterday. Sources said the authorities appointed six BCL men to different posts-- including Chhatra League JU vice-president Razib Chakrabarty to the post of administrative officer in the education section, Vice-President Sayed Jinnah as security officer, organising secretary Faisal Hossain Dipu as administrative officer at the JU Central Library and Mass Education Affairs Secretary Sohel Rana as administrative officer at the proctor’s office.
