Man beaten to death 

A farmer was beaten to death over a trifling matter in South Dhalarpar village in Sylhet on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Ershad, 32, son of Rusmat Ali of the village.

M Saifur Rahman Khan, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said Ershad locked an altercation with Kashem and Amin as his cow entered their crop-land at 9 am on Monday.

At one stage, Kashem and Amin beat him up with wood and bamboo stick severely, leaving him injured.

Family members rushed him to Companiganj Health Complex from where he was shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Later, Ershad succumbed to his injuries at 7 pm.

15 hurt as bus plunges into ditch

At least 15 labourers were injured in a road accident at Hargram Natunpara in Rajshahi city early Wednesday.

Police said the accident took place when the bus, carrying the labourers of Aman Jute Mill, plunged into a roadside ditch after the driver lost his control over the steering while lighting a cigarette, leaving all the passengers injured.

On information, a team of divers from Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense appeared on the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, said Farhad Hossain, station officer of the fire service.

Biker killed in road crash

A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Biswanath- Jagannathpur bypass in Sylhet on Tuesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Shafiq Miah, 55, son of Ashmat Ali from Mollargaon village of the upazila.

Locals said Shafiq Miah and UP member Fazar Ali were on way to home from a marriage ceremony riding on a motorbike. When they crossed Biswanath- Jagannathpur bypass area, a speeding microbus hit their bike from behind at 2.30 pm, leaving the duo critically injured.

Locals rushed them to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital where Shafiq succumbed to his injuries.
