‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ at a graveyard at Bhalaipur village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ketu Ahmed, 30, of Akandabaria village in Chuadanga sadar upazila.

According to Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, Ketu was arrested from Dhaka on December 26. He confessed to police that he stashed bullets and a gun at the graveyard and accordingly, police took him there late on Tuesday.

When the law enforcers reached the spot, Ketu’s accomplices, who were waiting there, opened fire on police.

After an exchange of bullets for about half an hour, Ketu tried to escape police custody and was caught in crossfire.

After the attackers fled, the police found Ketu’s bullet-hit bodies and took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.  Police recovered one LG gun, bullets, and six bombs and several sharp weapons from the spot.
