The first edition of the Dhaka District Women’s Football Tournament will get underway at the Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi today.
Organised by Dhaka District Women’s Sports Association, Keraniganj (Sobuj) women’s football team will lock horns with Nawabganj (Sobuj) women’s football team in the opening fixture of the tourney at 3:15pm.
State minister for youth and sports Biren Shikdar is expected to grace the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Dhaka Divisional Commissioner M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury will also present as the special guest.
Farhad Jesmin Lity, acting general secretary of the Dhaka District Women’s Sports Association, revealed all at the press conference at the conference room of the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) in the capital yesterday.
A total of 14 teams across Dhaka Division will take part in the five-day-long competition.
Dhaka DSA is organising the tournament at the wake of Bangladesh U-15 team’s success in the just concluded SAFF U-15 Football Championship. Even the success of women’s football has also forced Bangladesh Football Federation to take fresh programme for women’s footballers, The BFF has already announced that it will try its best to send the team to World Cup U-20 qualifying round.
