khulna: Ten houses were gutted as a fire broke out at Garuikhali Housing project in Khulna on Monday night. Local sources said the fire originated from a kitchen of a house at 8 pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining nine other houses, reports UNB.

Locals rushed in and brought the fire under control at 10:30 pm after two and half hours of frantic efforts. UP chairman Ruhul Amin said the affected owners claimed that the estimated losses caused by the fire are about Tk 20 lakh.

Another report adds: Police detained a Rohingya man from Paikgacha Bazar of upazila headquarters on Monday night.

The arrestee was identified as Khermen, son of Arman, fled from Myanmar amid persecution.

Aminul Islam Biplob, officer-in-charge of Paikgacha Police Station, said that police arrested Khermen while he was wandering here and there at night.
