Prof Abul Barkat and Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed have been elected president and general secretary of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) respectively for the next two-year term (2018-2019), reports UNB.

The panel titled ‘Economics for the People’, led by Dr Barkat and Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed, won 28 posts, including that of the president and general secretary, out of 29 in the election held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in

the capital during its 20th biennial conference on Saturday.

A professor of Dhaka University’s Economics department, Dr Barkat was the chairman of Janata Bank from 2009 to 2014, while Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed is a director of Bangladesh Bank and a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) since 1990, according to a press release.
