Bannya honoured with ‘Sangeet Mahasomman’ in West Bengal

Renowned Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya has been honoured with the prestigious award 'Sangeet Mohasomman' by the West Bengal state government on Saturday. The singer was awarded for her special contribution to the field of music.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee handed over the award to Bannya during the inaugural ceremony of ‘Bangla Sangeet Mela 2017’ held on Uttirno Muktomancha in Kolkata on December 23 evening. Alongside the award, Bannya received an amount of 50 thousand rupees, uttorio (celebratory scarf) and memento.

In the presence of prominent cultural personalities like singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Dijen Mukhopadhyay and others, three ministers of state government--youth welfare minister Arup Biswas, state minister for information and culture Indranil Sen, power minister Sobhan Deb Chattopadhyay were also present at the event.

About 3000 well-known and promising artistes are taking part in the 'Sangeet Mela' this year. With a whole night programme at Rabindra Sadan on the final day, ‘Bangla Sangeet Mela’ will continue till December 30.

To note, along with Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, seven more artiste were honoured with the same award.
