Capital punishment for killers demanded

Barisal: Speakers at a human chain demanded capital punishment to the killers of SSC examinee Abu Saleh, who was killed in Rupatali area of Barisal city on December 10 centering a row over senior-junior feud. Local people of Ward no 24 of Barisal City Corporation and family members of Saleh organised the programme in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city yesterday. They demanded immediate arrest and speedy trial of the killers of Saleh. Selim Mridha, Harun-Or-Rashid, Dr Manisha Chakrabarty, Advocate AK Azad addressed the programme, among others.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Barisal Kotwali Police Station Farhad Sardar said police are conducting drives to arrest the killers.

 Abu Saleh, 18, son of Liton Mridha of Rupatali Sher-e-Bangla Road area, was a student of Nuria Secondary School in the city.

As a sequel to a previous altercation, Hridoy, an HSC student of Government Hatem Ali College and a resident in the area, along with his associates hit Saleh in the head with iron sticks near Zahitunnesa Mahila Madrasah on December 10.
