The highest prize money tennis tournament in the history of the Bangladesh tennis, Runner Group Victory Day Tennis competition will get underway from today at the National Tennis Complex (NTC) in the capital.
A total of 250 players of different age group from 23 clubs and organisations will participate in the week-long (December 24-30) competition in the 11 categories.
Participants teams are- Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan, Zafar Imam Tennis Complex, Rajshahi, Brahmanbaria DSA, Uttara Club Limited, Gulshan Youth Club, British High Commission Club, American Club, Officers Club, Dhaka, Gulshan Club, Dhaka Club, Manikganj Club, Mymensingh Club, Narsingdi Tennis Club, Madaripur Tennis Club, Jhalakathi Club, Pabna Samson H Chowdhury Tennis Club, Engineers’ Recreation Center, Navy Club, Senanibash (Cantonment) Officers Club, Naogaon Tennis Club, Narayanganj Club, Ansar VDP Club and National Tennis Complex
Mohammed Ali Deen senior vice-president of Bangladesh tennis Federation (BTF) stated all in a près conference yesterday at the NTC.
Ali Deen, who is also the director of Runner Group, said that this is one of the important competitions, organised by the BTF where from they pick up talents for the different international competitions.
“We organise different domestic and international competition round the year, from the domestic tournaments we hunt talents and we had already received a very good feed back, as our boys are doing well in the international meets in home and abroad.”
“We are expecting that in future our position in the international arena will be better day by day, as in Nepal, our Under-12 team emerged champions in a ITF competition in Kathmandu and the Under-14 team also did good result in the Asian age group championship.”
“This time it will be the highest amount prize money competition in the history of Bangladesh when a total of Taka 2,95000 will be given to the winners as prize money.”
Meanwhile, the champions of the men’s single of senior group will receive taka 25,000, runners up 15,000, semifinalists 8,000, quarterfinalists 4,000, 16th round holders 2,000, while the women’s (senior) champions, men’s double, women’s doubles, boys under-16 singles and doubles, Girls U-16 singles and doubles to Under-12 boys and girls singles champions, runners-up, semifinalists will also receive prize money.
