Army overtake Navy on second day

Bangladesh Army overshadowed the Bangladesh Navy on the second day of the NRB 41st National Athletics Championship when they won 30 medals including 10 gold yesterday at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

In the ongoing national meet Bangladesh Navy, who led the Day I of the competition with seven gold, despite winning 10 gold medal, three more to first day could equal to Army.

But the Army team, apart from 10 gold, won 15 silver and five bronze to clinch the first position in the second day and Navy went to second with winning 22 medals with 10 gold, five silver and seven bronze followed by Bangladesh Jail, who won one gold medal, two silver and five bronze.

The highlight was the national record made by Moniruzzaman of Bangladesh Army in javelin. He threw the javelin to 63.05 meters to break the previous record of Rasheduzzaman of Chittagong DSA, who threw 63.74 meters in 1990.

Sajib Hossain of Navy retained the men’s high jump, while Army won the men’s 4X100 metre relay gold and Navy bagged the women’s 4X100 metre relay gold.

The three day meet will end today with the two prestigious events- 100-metre men’s and 100-metre women’s sprint- will be held at the fag end of the day. The men’s final will take place at 3 pm and the women’s at 3.4 pm.

Bangladesh Athletics Federation president ASM Ali Kabir will distribute prizes as chief guest.
