Khulna Division set record in NCL when they lifted the league trophy for the highest sixth time beating Dhaka Division by an innings and 49 runs on the fourth and final day of the 19th National Cricket League (NCL) at BKSP ground yesterday.
By winning the 2017 league trophy, they grabbed the record under their belt surpassing the record of Rajshahi Division who won it for five times.
They chalked up nine points including a bonus point and finished the league with the highest 25 with notching two wins and four draws in Tier-1 fixture.
At BKSP-3, the second innings of Dhaka Division stopped at 297 in the first session of the final day by the devastating bowling onslaught of Khulna’s sublime bowlers-Rubel Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Mustafizur Rahman and Abdur Razzak. The quartet took the rest of the six wickets. In the first innings, Dhaka were flattened by Miraj, who scalped seven wickets. Earlier Dhaka were skittled out for 113 in their first innings.
Therefore, Khulna piled on a run-mountain of 459 for eight declared thanks largely to Anamul Haque Bijoy (202) and Mahadi Hasan (177) what Dhaka could not cross by their two innings. Resuming the final day at 169 for four, Dhaka could add 128 runs at the exchange of six wickets. Nadif Chowdhury and Mohammad Sharif both missed their respective fifty for seven and three runs respectively.
Miraj, who claimed 10 wickets in the match, was named for the man of the match for his outstanding bowling display.
After losing the match, Dhaka, who bagged only 10 points, demoted to the Tier-2 as the rock-bottom place on the Tier-1 points table.
On the other hand Rangpur Nasir Hossain who finished the day three with an unbeaten 270 could not convert his double to triple hundred.
But the all-rounder missed to avail the opportunity for stepping into the folklore of the Bangladesh cricket as a triple centurion.
The 26-year-old, Nasir, walked off the field with 295 that was just five runs shy of the milestone what Moniruzzaman Monir and Rokibul Hasan made earlier in the past. Monir first showed the glimpse of his talent when he slammed 311 for Dhaka Division against Barisal Division in the Inter-divisional Cricket Championship at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium in the mid-1980s.
Afterwards, Rokibul Hasan smashed 313 for Barisal Division against Sylhet Division at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah in 2007.
Rangpur Division declared their first inning at 614 for seven after Barisal Division’s 335. Thereafter, Barisal Division finished the day to put on 217-4 on the score sheet and drew the match. In Tier-2 matches between Rajshahi Division-Dhaka Metro in Rajshahi’s the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium and Chittagong Division-Sylhet Division in Sylhet’s International Cricket Stadium ended in draws. Despite drawing the match, Rajshahi top-scored with 25 points and promoted to Tier-1.
