Two suspected robbers have been killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with police in Kusthia and Sylhet, reports UNB. In Kushtia, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Chadagara on Kushtia-Rajbari highway yesterday. The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Tipped off that a gang of robbers put barricade on the highway for robbery, a joint team of Detective Branch and police went there at the dead end of the night, said officer-in-charge Sabbirul Islam of Kushtia DB police.
Sensing their presence, robbers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate.
One of the robbers sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight and doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital. Four cops also sustained injuries during the gunfight.
Police, however, recovered a one-shutter gun, two pipe guns, one chopper, one knife, one Chinese machete, one round bullet of shutter gun and two round bullets of pipe gun from the spot.
In Sylhet, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Choripara village in Kanaighat upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Habi, 45.
A team of police went to the village to arrest Habi, an accused in a robbery case, around 9:30pm, said ASP of Sylhet police and media officer Shamsul Alam Sarker.
Sensing the presence of police, Habi and his family members opened fire on the law enforcers forcing the police to retaliate, Sarker claimed.
He said Habi was shot dead while six people, including four police officers, were injured in the gunfight.
