Woman killed ‘by husband’
Bagerhat: A housewife was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband at Bajikarkhanda village in Mongla upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Laizu Begum, 24, wife of Mohiuddin Mridha, a resident of the village.
Md Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station, said that Mohiuddin married off Laizu three years back. Over family feud, the couple locked into an altercation in the morning.
At one stage, Mohiuddin stabbed Laizu with a machete, leaving critically injured. Later, she was rushed to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.
Mohiuddin went into hiding after the incident, added the OC.

Vitamin A plus capsules

Aiming at feeding Vitamin A capsules to 3,20,837 children, the Health Department will hold the National vitamin A plus campaign next Saturday in the district.
While addressing an orientation workshop at Dr Nazrul Islam hall room, Civil Surgeon Dr Gautam Roy all preparations have been completed to make the second round of Vitamin A plus campaign a success.
Civil surgeon said a total of 33,851 children aged from 6 months to 11 months will be administered blue coloured vitamin A capsule while 2,86986 children aged from 12 months to 59 months will be fed red coloured capsules on the day. The civil surgeon said a total of 17,89 centres have been set up in the district of which1,696 permanent centres, 67 additional centres and 26 mobile centres.
Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr Prodip Kumar Saha presented the key note paper on the programme, District Co-coordinator, Nutrition International.
Twin sisters drown in Jhenidah

Two siblings drowned in a pond at Ujjalpur village in Maheshpur upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Hashi and Khushi, daughters of Fulchan of the village.
The two sisters were playing near a pond around 9am. At one stage, they drowned in the pond while plucking water lilies, said Mantu Mia, ward member of Natima Union.
They were rushed to Maheshpur upazila health complex where doctors declared the duo dead.
21 arrested, phensidyl seized
DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives arrested 19 persons including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Law enforcers also recovered 209 bottles of Phensidyl during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district. During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested six persons, Birganj Thana police arrested two persons, Biral Thana police arrested four persons, Bochaganj Thana police arrested two persons, Khansama Thana police arrested two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Pakerhat area around 6am and Kaharole Thana police arrested three persons. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
