Stocks face fall due to large-caps

Stock markets closed the fourth session of the week yesterday with downward trends due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities, reports BSS.

The falling major sectors were textile, fuel and power and engineering. A total of 140 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 32.17 points down at 6,196.48. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 5.53 points down at 1,364.87 and with 12.71 points down at 2,231.17.

The day’s trade value at DSE increased to Tk 511.59 crore from Tuesday’s Tk 465.58 crore and the daily trade rose to 14.53 crore shares from 13.53 crore shares of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 331 securities, prices of 106 securities closed higher against 180 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Rupali Insurance, Republic Insurance, Emerald Oil, Global Insurance and National Tubes while the major losing companies were Dulamia Cotton, Jamuna Oil, Desh Bandhu Polymer, Metro Spinning and Kay and Que.

National Tubes topped the turnover list followed by Square Pharma, ALIF, GP and City Bank.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 115.58 points down at 19,176.67.

At CSE, 243 issues were traded. Of those, 66 closed higher and 142 closed lower when 1.26 crore shares worth Tk 43.93 crore changed hands.
