KHULNA: Police arrested a young man on Tuesday morning for allegedly torturing his wife brutally for dowry at Banishanta Dhangmari village in Dakope upazila, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Ujjal Sardar, 29, son of Nirapad Sardar. Earlier, his father Nirapad Sardar and younger brother Taposh Sardar were arrested over the incident.

Police said Ujjal married Babita, daughter of Pulin Baidya of Bererkhal village, barely one year back. Soon after the marriage, Ujjal and his family members started to torture Babita for dowry. On December 15, Ujjal got engaged in an altercation with his wife over the issue.

At one stage, he took off the clothes of Babita and glued her sexual organ and rectum forcibly.

As the housewife fell sick, neighbours took her to Dakope Upazila Health Complex. Following the incident, victim's brother Robin Baidya filed a case with Dakope Police Station against Ujjal, Nirapad, Taposh and Ujjal's mother Niharika Sardar under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said officer-in-charge of the police station (Investigation) Manjurul Islam Masud.
