Bring baby before court on Jan 7: HC

The High Court yesterday asked the uncle and grandmother of 20-month old child Mousum Gain Nil to bring her before the court on January 7 for taking her without consent of her mother. In response to a writ petition, the vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty came up with the order.

Petitioner Forida Yasmin Moni, mother of Nil, told reporters that Newton Gain, father of Nil, was Hindu. ‘After marrying me Newton converted to Muslim and renamed as Liton Hossain. But, family member of Liton did not accept our marriage. Family members of Liton used to take Nil to her grandmother house for many times. Liton’s family members did not return Nil to me for many days after taking her from me. Even, they were not communicating with me for many days, she added.

At one stage, I moved to many rights organisations to mitigate the problem between two families. After failing to get any remedy I have filed the writ petition before the High Court seeking necessary directives over the matter, she noted.

After hearing on the writ petition, the HC bench came up with the order.

Advocate Ainun Nahar Siddika appeared for the petitioner during the hearing on the petition.

Home secretary, inspector general of police, deputy police commissioner of Khulna, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga police station, Ripon, uncle of Nil and Shusama Gain, grandmother of Nil have been made respondents in the

petition.
