Missing marine engineer found dead
Police recovered the body of a Marine Engineer from an under-construction building at Sukrabad in the capital arly Monday, two days after he went missing from Elephant Road. The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Hasan Rimon, 42, a resident of Uttara. Rimon went missing after had come out from one of his relative’s house on Saturday night. On the following day, his family members filed a General Diary (GD) with New Market police station. Later, a team of police found out his body from the ground floor of the 10-storey under-construction building around 1:35 am, said sub-inspector Mahbubur Rahman Sarkar of New Market Police Station. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
12 factories fined Tk 1.2 crore
The Department of Environment (DoE) on Monday fined 12 factories a total of Tk 1.20 crore for polluting the environment in Dhaka and four other districts.
As part of an ongoing drive against environment pollution, DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) slapped the fines on factories in different parts of Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj and Munshiganj, said a DoE handout.
Following hearing at the DoE headquarters in the city, the factory authorities were fined for harming the environment and causing ecological damage by releasing untreated liquid effluents or for running the factories without taking environmental clearance, the handout added.
Warehouse catches fire in capital
A fire broke out at a warehouse of motor vehicle parts at Malibagh Rail Gate in the capital on Monday afternoon.
Mizanur Rahman, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the fire erupted around 3:58 pm at the warehouse.
On information, four units of the fire fighters reached the spot and were working to put out the blaze till filing this report at 4:40 pm, Mizanur said.
