Protest continues at IU against entry-fee hike
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The students of Islamic University (IU) continued their strike for the 8th consecutive day on Monday demanding a decrease in the admission fees for academic session 2017-18.
Witnesses said around 100 students of different departments gathered in front of the university’s administration building and formed a protest procession there around 12 noon. Later, the students locked the main entrance of IU branch Agrani Bank Ltd around 2pm to press for their demand.
IU Proctor Prof M Mahbubar Rahman went there at one stage and assured them of looking into the matter. The students threatened to continue their agitation until their demand is met, they said.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said they increased the admission fees to adjust those with other public universities.
Int’l Model UN confce begins at DU
A four-day long international conference titled ‘International Model United Nations Conference’ began at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday.
DU Pro-vice-chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad inaugurated the conference organised by the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA).
The theme of the conference is “Towards Global Amity: Cooperation for Inclusive Future”.
In her speech, Dr Nasreen Ahmad urged the young generation to make themselves as skilled human resources to face various global challenges, including the Rohingya crisis.
DIU chairman visits Indonesia University
Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University (DIU) visited the University Sari Mutiara (USM) at Medan in Indonesia recently, says a press release. He delivered an interactive formal lecture amidst a gathering of more than 1000 students and faculty members. Dr Khan inspired the students with his life learning motivational guideline from his experience for a bright career ahead, including entrepreneurship.
Followed by an invitation from Dr Dra Ivan Elisabeth Purba, MKes, Honorable Rector of USM, Khan visited the university. He visited different sections of the university, talked with concerned persons regarding further opportunity for the students and faculties through mutually agreed manner. He also exchanged souvenir with his counterpart during the visit.

Seminar on basic mobile communication held at AIUB
A seminar on “Basics of Mobile Communication Network” was held by AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) at the Library of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) permanent campus recently, says a press release.
The seminar was propounded by Grameenphone Ltd.
Welcoming the guests and participants, Prof Dr Md Abdur Rahman (Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) inaugurated the event and addressed on communication and modern technology. Followed by Syed Ziaul Islam (General Manager, Head of Radio & Transmission Network Operation, Service Operation Technology, Grameenphone BD) introduced Grameenphone’s history and vision.
Reception to freshers at JU hall
Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday night accorded a reception to the fresher students of its dormitory.
The reception ceremony took place at the hall’s central ground around 7 pm.
Dr Shri Biren Sikder, state minister for youth and sports, addressed the programme as chief guest while JU VC Prof Farzana Islam, Pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain, IU Pro-VC Prof Sahinur Rahman and JU Treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Manzurul Huq were present as special guests.
