kicks off today

A three-day Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Utsab’ (National Rabindra Sangeet Festival) is set to kick off today at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library in the capital’s Shahbag area. Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha (BRSSS) is organising the festival for the 29th time with the slogan ‘Tomar Ganer Padma Bone Abar Dako Nimontrone, Tari Renur Tilok Lekha Amay Koro Dan’ this year. Noted artist and puppeteer Mustafa Monwar will inaugurate the festival at 5:45pm today, which will continue till December 23. Noted artist Hashem Khan, flute player Gazi Abdul Hakim and music director Doulatur Rahman will be honoured at the festival.

The festival includes solo performance of 110 artistes. Besides, two dance dramas ‘Roth Jatra’ directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky and ‘Bismoye Jage Pran’ presented by Pallabi Dance Centre will be staged at the festival.  

Rabindra Sangeet exponent from Kolkata Sraboni Sen, Sudeshna Sanyal Rudro and Bishwarup Rudro will also perform as guest singers at the festival.

To disclose the detailed information about the festival, a press conference was held at a restaurant in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area on Sunday. BRSSS president Tapan Mahmud, its vice-president Bula Mahmud and general secretary Sajed Akbar, among others, were present at the press meet.

This year’s festival will be dedicated to music exponent Sudhin Das, Dr Korunamoy Goswami, singer Abdul Jabbar, Actor Nayak Raj Razzak, reciter Kazi Arif, singer Bari Siddiqui, Lucky Akhand, Nazmul Huda Bachchu,  dance artiste Rahiza Khanom Jhunu and DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, the organisers of the festival informed.
