Chittagong Seaport has set a record by advancing 27 notches in container-handling in eight years, reports BSS.
The Chittagong port ranked 71st position in 2016 among the 100 ports across the world, according to the Lloyds
List survey report released recently. The rank of the
port was 98 in 2008, said a handout.
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) will observe the achievement today through a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will present at the function as the chief guest while Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will attend it as the special guest.
Editor of the Lloyds List Liton Nightingle will hand over a certificate of the recognition to CPA at the function.
In 2016, the 100 ports handled about 555.6 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) containers, which was 2.20 per cent higher than that of 2015.
China and India stood first and second position respectively. Twenty ports from China, three ports from India and Karachi port of Pakistan took position in the list.
