Curtain falls on ‘DU 12th Annual Central Theatre Festival’ today

The curtain falls on the 12th edition of ‘Dhaka University Central Annual Theatre Festival’, organised by Theatre and Performance Studies Department of Dhaka University (DU), today at the TSC (Teachers' and Students' Centre) Auditorium of DU. Two plays will be staged on the final day of the eight-day festival. The festival will conclude with Mamtajuddin Ahmed’s play ‘Ki Chah Shonkhochil’ directed by Kirti Bijoyea. Before that a play based on the short story of Akhtaruzzaman Elias’s ‘Tarabibir Morod Pola’ directed by Ragib Nayeem will be staged. Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the finance ministry Md Abdur Razzak MP will be present as chief guest in the closing ceremony. Presided over by Chairman of the Department of Theater and Performance Studies Ahmadul Kabir, DU Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin and director of Dird Group Shikoa Nazneen will be present there as special guests. Besides, noted theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar will deliver the concluding speech at the event.

Earlier on December 11, DU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the festival in the presence of Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor as the chief guest. Eminent theatre personality and freedom fighter Aly Zaker was honoured with a special award for his lifelong contribution to Bangladesh’s theatre at the event. After the inauguration, the weeklong festival opened with the Tagore's play ‘Chandalika’ directed by Sadia Mahbub Sara.

To note, as many as 17 plays, directed by the students of the honours final semester from Theatre and Performance Studies Department, are scheduled to be staged in the festival.
