Mohiudin’s Qulkhwani today

The qulkhwani of late former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and President of the City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury will be held in the Chitaagong city today.

On the occasion, Mohiuddin's family will arrange mezban for 80,000 people at 12 places of the port city, including his Chashma Hill residence in Sholoshahar area, on the day, said Mohammad Osman Gani, personal secretary of Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

The other venues for mezban include The King of Chittagong in Panchlaish area, K Square Community Centre at GEC intersection, Kisholoy Community Centre at Chawkbazar, Swiss Park Community Centre in Panchlaish R/A, Swaranika Community Centre at Love Lane, N Mohammad Convention Hall in Muradpur area, KB Convention Hall at Bakalia, BIP Banquet Community Centre and Sagarika Square at Kazirdewri and Golden Touch Community Centre in Double Mooring area.

10 Ansar men held over theft charge in Gazipur

Some 10 members of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP were detained on Saturday night over the allegation of stealing some materials of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) from its Tongi office.

Firoz Talukder, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station, said Tongi office of DESCO filed a case with the police station Saturday night and handed over the 10 Ansar men, who were discharging duties there.

Few days back, a good number of nuts and bolts of DESCO worth Tk 25,000 were stolen from its Tangi office, the OC added.

Mountaineers’ photo exhibition

A three-day exhibition on photographs taken by 13 Bangladeshi mountaineers during their successful expeditions of five mountains including the Mt. Everest of Nepal began in the capital’s Drik Gallery on Friday.

Embassy of Nepal, Dhaka in collaboration with Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC), Dhaka organised the photo exhibition titled 'Plains-Hills-Mountains'.

Nepal's Ambassador in Bangladesh Prof Dr Chop Lal Bhusal and renowned artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma jointly opened the show, said a press release.

During the programme the speakers highlighted the vulnerability of South Asia due to climate change. They emphasized on sustainable development to protect the mother nature for future generation.

Bangladeshi Mt. Everest summiteer M.A. Mohit conducted the programme.

Photo exhibition will continue through Sunday.

Foundation stone of Diabetic Hospital laid

State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed, MP, has laid foundation stone of the 50-bed Rangpur Diabetic Samity Hospital (RDSH) on 70 decimals of land in Radhaballov area of Rangpur city.

The State minister unveiled the plaque of foundation stone to launch construction work of RDSH at a function arranged on Rangpur Diabetic Samity (RDS) premises on Friday afternoon as the chief guest, a press release said here on Sunday.

Construction works of the hospital will be implemented under supervision of RDS at a cost of Taka 39.44 crore under government finance through the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide modern medicare services and treatments to the diabetic patients.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP, attended the function as the special guest with Acting President of Rangpur Diabetic Samity Professor Dr Rezaul Haq in the chair.

Discussion held in Rangpur

Health experts at an advocacy meeting in Rangpur yesterday called for providing Vitamin A to all under five babies to increase their disease resistant capacity and reduce death risks and prevent night blindness and other diseases.

They came up with the call at the advocacy meeting organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at its auditorium to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (Second Round) to be held on December 23, 2017 successful.

Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mozammel Hossain attended the meeting as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam, Chief Health Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and its Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum, among others, addressed.
