‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, a 2017 American epic space opera film written and directed by Rian Johnson, was released at Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall and Blockbuster Cinemas of Jamuna Future Park. With its US release, the second film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy hits the cinemas in Bangladesh on Friday.   

Produced by Lucas Films and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is the eighth chapter in the Star War franchise.

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Gwendoline Christie in returning roles, with Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio del Toro joining the cast. It also marks the final performance of veteran actress Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016, with the film being dedicated in her memory.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 9, 2017, and was released worldwide on Friday including Bangladesh.

Following the events of the film, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Resistance fighters led by General Leia Organa evacuates their main base when a First Order fleet reaches the planet. After the fight, the Resistance vessels jump into hyperspace to escape. General Hux tracks the Resistance and a long pursuit begins, with the Resistance relying on their spaceships' mobility and shields to survive while their fuel supplies dwindle. During one battle, Kylo Ren hesitates to attack the lead Resistance ship after sensing the presence of his mother Leia onboard. TIE fighters destroy the bridge of the ship, killing many Resistance leaders. Leia is incapacitated, leaving Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo in command. Disapproving of their leaders' passive strategy, Poe, Finn, BB-8 and mechanic Rose Tico embarks on a secret plan to disable the First Order fleet's tracking device.

Both teasers and trailers of the film have garnered a lot of anticipation among the viewers.
