Land office staff caught while taking bribe
A team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday caught a staff of land office in Barisal while taking bribe.
Acting on secret information a team of ACC caught red-handed bench assistant at Barisal settlement office Abu Bakkar Siddique while taking Tk 10,000 as bribe from a man namely Abdul Mannan of Rupatoli area of the city in the morning in connection with a case.
Later, he was handed over to Kotwali police yesterday afternoon.
Road mishap kills three
Three persons were killed and 20 others injured as two passengers buses collided head-on in Matikata area on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj Highway on Wednesday morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as Ashiya Khatun, 62, and Harun-Or- Rashid, 50.
The injured persons were admitted to upazila hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Hipjur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Godagari police station, said the accident took place when two buses collided head-on around 7:30 M due to dense fog.
Inauguration ceremony
The inception meeting of phase IV of SDC Local Governance Programme SHARIQUE was held at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday says a press release.
The meeting was organised to inaugurate the activities of Sharique Phase IV.
Sharique, which started in 2006, is a mandated project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and is being implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Interco-operation.
Abdul Malek, secretary of the Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives, attended the meeting as chief guest.
The Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, René Holenstein was the special guest of this meeting.
