The 46th martyrdom anniversary of Birshreshtha Shahid Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir was observed in a befitting manner here today. Freedom fighters, Chapainawabganj district administration, Chapainawabganj Zila Parishad, police administration and other political and cultural organisations offered wreaths at Birshreshtha monument in the morning at Rehaichar where he breathed his last on this day in 1971. Deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Md Mahmudul Hasan, superintendent of police of Chapainawabganj TM Mojahidul Islam, freedom fighters Ruhul Amin, Abdus Samad and Sirajul Islam, other officials of district and upazila administrations, police officials and other freedom fighters were present.
Birshreshtha Jahangir sacrificed his life on this day in 1971. After a fierce fighting, the then Nawabganj subdivision was freed from the clutches of the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators under his valiant leadership on the day.
Later, a group of freedom fighters recovered the body from Rehaichar, the southern part of Birshreshtha Shahid Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir Bridge, on 15 December morning and buried it on the Choto SonaMosque premises under Shibganj police station.
