COMILLA: Another defamation case was filed in Comilla against acting editor of Daily Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman, on Tuesday for his alleged derogatory remarks about independence, sovereignty of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu and his family, reports UNB. Advocate Md Ziaul Hasan Chowdhury Shohag, former vice president of Comilla Chhatra League filed the Tk1000 crore defamation case with the Comilla Judicial Magistrate Court-1.
Justice Md Mostain Billah ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Comilla Detective Branch (DB) to investigate into the matter. According to the case statement, on December 1, Mahmudur Rahman at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital alleged that Bangladesh is not an independent country as it has no sovereignty although it has land and population.
“Bangladesh is now ‘a colony of India’. According to the political science, Bangladesh can't be considered as a state. Sheikh Mujib had killed country's democracy and independence of mass media and buried it,” he had said, according to the statement.
He also demanded that the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should not be on the premise of the Jatiya Press Club and claimed that the current government is an illegal government.
