Case filed over OMS rice seizure

A case has been filed in connection with seizure of a truck carrying 176 sacks of rice meant for open market sale (OMS) at Sapura in the city of Rajshahi. Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, said that Golam Mostafa, sub-inspector of the police station, filed the case with the police station on Sunday night against the truck driver and 4-5 others of Sadar Food Godown. Earlier, police in a drive, seized the truck carrying OMS rice at Sapura in the city on Sunday and arrested its driver Firoz when the rice-laden truck was heading towards Baharampur from Rajshahi Sadar Food Godown as there were no legal documents of the rice.

Victory fair kicks off in Ctg

A month-long 29th traditional victory fair began on Sunday on the  MA Aziz Stadium premises in Chittagong with the objective of informing the new generation of the heroic tales of nine-month long bloody struggle of the country's liberation war. Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharrf Hossain formally inaugurated the fair by igniting the victory flame in presence of large number of freedom fighters and people of all walks of life. Speaking briefly on the occasion, the housing minister said the traditional victory fair has been playing a vital role in informing the youth folk of the prestigious history of the War of Liberation.

Man found dead in Rajshahi   

Police recovered a floating body of an unidentified man from Padma River of the city in Rajshahi on Monday morning. Locals spotted the body, aged around 40, in Borokuthi Padmar Par around 11:00 am and informed police, said Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of the Boalia Police Station. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Arms ‘peddler’ arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested an alleged arms trader along with arms from Losmanpur area on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified as Abdul Karim, 24, son of Emaj Uddin, a resident of Jaminpur Purbapara of the upazila. Based on information, a team of Rab-5 led by camp commander squadron leader Mohammad Syed Abdullah Al- Murad, conducted the drive around 7:00 pm and arrested Karim along with a foreign-made pistol, six magazines, 14 rounds of bullets and a mobile set, said a press release.

Death anniv of SM Khalilur Rahman today

The 11th death anniversary of SM Khalilur Rahman alias Khalil, a social worker, and father of SM Delwar Hossain, a senior reporter of Daily Dhaka Protidin (Crime), will be observed today, says a press release. On the occasion, qurankhwani and milad mahfil will be held at his residence at Shikdar Vila at Kamrangirchar in the capital on Friday. Relatives and admirers are requested to attend the programmes and pray for the salvation of the departed soul.
