AG receives death threat

Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam yesterday received a death threat, reports UNB. The threat was issued in a letter sent to his office by an anonymous sender in the afternoon. The letter asked the state's chief law officer to get ready for going to hell, saying time has come for it. Personal secretary to the AG Kabir Ahmed filed a general diary with Shahbagh Police Station over the matter around 9 pm, said deputy commissioner (Ramna) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Maruf Hossain Sarder. About the death threat, Mahbubey Alam said he is not afraid at all. "Threats will come and those will have to be faced with courage," he said.

This is not the first time the attorney general, who has been dealing with war crimes cases for around seven years, has received death threat. He and the members of his family have been threatened with death on several occasions through letters and SMS.

The AG received the death threat thrice -- on October 22 in 2013, and on May 31 and August 9 in 2016.
