Pregnant woman killed
by ‘husband’ in Savar
A young man allegedly slaughtered his five-month pregnant wife in Jamsing Solaiman Market area in Savar on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Kalpana Akhter, 22, wife of day-labourer Mohammad Hossain, 30.
Locals said Kalpana was sleeping in the evening when Hossain slit her throat with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Later, Hossain's parents handed him over to police.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Confessing to killing his wife, Hossain claimed that she had an illicit affair with his elder brother, said sub-inspector Azgar Miah of Savar Model Police Station.
‘Remain active against militancy’
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) officials said law enforcers remain active against militancy, terrorism and drug- addiction for maintaining peace and harmony in the society.
They came up with the statement in a meeting organised by RMP at its conference hall here yesterday.
Additional Inspector General of Police (Special Branch) Dr Jabed Patwary attended the meeting as the chief guest with RMP Commissioner Mahbubor Rahman in the chair.
Additional Commissioner Sarder Tamij Uddin Ahmed and Deputy Commissioners Tanvir Haider Chowdhury, AKM Nahidul Islam, Amir Zafar, Abdullah Al Mamun and Hemayetul Islam also spoke.
