Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan Papon said that they have prioritised to appoint a good and quality head coach on permanent basis what remained vacant for the last three-four weeks after the sudden resignation of Chandika Hathusingha. Papon also said that the other options they have in their mind they’re also discussing if they couldn’t finalise any coach from their short-list prior to the next series.
“It’s not that such types of discussions are not being held. But our most important thing is to appoint a head coach for the nonce,” said Nazmul Hassan. “It might not be done prior to the series what we have ahead of us at home turf. But we have needed a coach on permanent basis and that’s the most important thing for us,” Papon told reporters during the innings break of the important fixture between Dhaka Dynamites and Rangpur Riders in Mirpur. “If we could not finalise the appointment of the head coach before this series what will then be happened we have kept in mind also,” he added.
The second and next meeting of the executive board directors will be held on December 10, wherein the issue will be discussed. And so, the board seeks to finish the discussion with their primarily-selected coaches whose names have been enlisted in their three-man short list.
As a part of the coach-selection process, English-born coach Richard Pybus, who coached Bangladesh for some months in 2012, discussed with the board and then presented his future plan. Even, two other coaches are in the process who will come here within December 10.
“We’re working to find out a coach for our team as we’ve no coach here at the moment. We’ve contracted at different places and communicated almost everyone who showed their interests,” the BCB president said.
“Actually we’ve prepared a short-list from the interested coaches. We’ve brought them in a final process. As a part of its continuation, Richard Pybus came yesterday. He presented his future plan before the available members of the board,” he also said.
“Some will come ahead. Of them, Phil Simmons of West Indies will arrive on December 9. Even another will come in between the period whose name will not be disclosed at this moment,” he added.
BCB boss said that they will sit with the coaching staffs and captains on December 9 before the board meeting to discuss about the next international assignments what they will play at home den.
“The coaching staffs we have including Richard Halsall we will sit with them on December 9 to discuss about the next international games as we have back-to-back series at home yard ahead of us,” he said.
“Actually we’ll formulate our plan for the next series consulting with Halsall, Khaled Mahmud Sujon and three-format captains,” he added.
Asked if there is any possibility to get head coach prior to the next series, Nazmul said, “At this moment, it’s tough to say is it possible to appoint a head coach before the series against Sri Lanka?.
Expressing his better feeling over Pybus’ presentation, Papon said, “Definitely the presentation of Pybus is good. There is no doubt about it. He’ll work for the long-term planning. For this, he gave us a 10-year planning.”
“But we’ve to see the planning of both the long and short terms. We’ve World Cup ahead what is also important for us. We can not do all at the moment what he suggested. But Bangladesh will be benefited if we could utilize it to the end,” he added.
