Farmers and agriculture officials in Laxmipur district are expecting good production of Aman paddy this year.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), farmers in five upazilas of the district cultivated Aman of different varieties such as hybrid, local and Ufshi this season.  A total of 73,153 hectares of shoal areas in the district have been brought under Aman cultivation, said sources.

Monir Hossain, a farmer of Ramgati, said he cultivated both varieties of paddy in his 20 hectares of land and hopes for a good yield.  As this crop is food-tolerant, farmers cultivate it immediately after the shoals emerge on the riverbed.

Necessary trainings and instructions are being provided with the farmers of these areas, said Deputy Director of the DAE, Laximpur Md Belal Hossain.  Though production target was fixed 183,433 metric tones, the target may exceed, he said further.
