Dhaka Club Limited once again come forward to organize the 4th Dhaka Club President’s Cup Tennis Tournament. The three day tournament started on the club premises yesterday. Dhaka Club Limited President Syed Shahed Reza stated this at a press conference at the club lawn yesterday. “This century old traditional social club has been contributing in different sports since its inception and the club is vow to continue sports events in future.” said Syed Shahed Reza.
Member-in-charge of the tournament committee Monir Hossain, Tournament Directors Mohammed Ali Deen and Shahzad Hamid, Seraj Haider, chairman of reception committee and Mohammed Quddus, chairman of disciplinary committee were also present.
The matches of the tournament being held simultaneously at Dhaka Club and National Tennis Complex courts, Shahed Reza further said that the club is organisng the tournament with an aim to extend the bond of friendship among the participating teams. “We also have a motive to promote as well as popularize the
tennis game in the country through this tournament,” said Shahed Reza
Dhaka Club president said that they had invited all 64 districts to take part in this three senior age group (35 to 45; 45 to 55 and 55 and above) tournament. 165 players drawn from 24 clubs are taking part in the tournament on knock-out basis.
Replying to a question he said that on the basis of average results of three team events the championship will be decided. The champions team will receive Tk 50,000 plus a trophy and runners-up will get Tk 35,000.
Later he released a bunch of balloons and pigeons to mark the formal inauguration
Shahzad Hamid informed that Travel Cook has decided to award to the best player of the tournament. He will receive a Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka air ticket and the second best player will get a Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka ticket.
Naogaon Tennis Club once again out to start as favourites in the Dhaka Club President’s Cup Tennis.
Naogaon Tennis Club, one of the oldest club in the country, won the previous two championship in a row and this time they are looking forward to complete a grand treble. In the inaugural tournament they finished runners-up, informed Mohammed Ali Deen, vice-president of the club.
