4 BCL activists detained over attacking journo at DU

Four Dhaka University students (DU) including one Chhatra League leader of DU Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit were held for allegedly assaulted two journalists on the university

campus on Tuesday

night.  

The arrested  have been identified as Dhaka University Bijoy Ekattor Hall Chhatra League Deputy Secretary and Farsi Department student Ahmed Faisal, Communication Disorders Department student Anwarul Kabir, and English Department students Tofail Hossain and Ashraful Islam Sakib.

“The four were detained and sent to the Shahbagh police station immediately after the incident,” said university Proctor

Prof AKM Golam Rabbani.

The four are all first-year students and are known to be supporters of Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit Chhatra League President Fakir Rasel Ahmed.

Proctor Golam Rabbani said the proctorial body found the other three and handed over them to Shahbag police. Legal proceedings will be taken against them according to the university’s rules, he said.

 “The Chhatra League will handle the matter internally,” said Dhaka University Bangladesh Chhatra League

(BCL) President Abid Al Hassan.

Abul Hosen, officer in charge of Shahbagh Police station said, “They are being quizzing at the station”

On March 15, The Dhaka University correspondent of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) Imran Hossain was injured in an attack allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Bijoy Ekattor Hall.
