XINHUA, YANGON: Trade between Myanmar and European Unions member countries reached 1.2 billion US dollars in the first half of fiscal year 2017-2018, official Global New Light of Myanmar reported yesterday.
In accordance with the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmars export to EU member countries amounted to 789 million US dollars while its import shared with 412 million US dollars.
Germany topped the list among EU member countries with 297 million US dollars, followed by Britain with 178 million US dollars and France with 151 million US dollars.
The countrys trade with EU countries was 1.5 billion US dollars in the last FY 2016-2017.
The country mainly exports rice, pulses, tea leaf, coffee, apparel from garment sector on Cut-Make-Pack basis and fisheries.
Cosmetic, food and beverages and consumer goods are usually imported into the country.
About 5.6 billion US dollars of investments from EU member countries have flown into the country’s petroleum and natural gas enterprises, manufacturing, transportation, hotels and tourism, livestock sectors from 2013 to September, 2017.
