Two arrestees snatched away from police

Two arrestees, including a BCL leader, were snatched away from a police team by their supporters at Kandipara Bazar area in Gafargaon upazila of the district on Wednesday evening.
Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station, said a four-member police team, led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abul Kashem, on two motorbikes conducted a raid at Kandipara Bazaar to nab drug peddlers at about 6 pm on Wednesday. They challenged and caught Russel Ahmed, president of local Usthi union BCL unit and Alam Miah, and member of Usthi Union Parishad ward no-1. They recovered a pistol, two rounds of bullet and a magazine from Russel’s possession, said the OC.
When the police team was on their way to Pagla police station, local AL men and people allegedly waylaid the police team and snatched away the arrestees from them after a serious scuffle, the OC informed. The accused were not handcuffed while being transported, said sources.
Three policemen, including ASI Abul Kashem, were injured in the melee and they were given first aid.
